We've been mooovin'! As we look back on September at Monterey Mini Cow Company, we're grateful for the celebrations we've been part of and excited about what's taking shape at home.

This month's ranch scrapbook includes a magazine feature, a September evening at Monterey Zoo's gala, favorite wedding memories from late summer, and a look ahead to our Valais Blacknose sheep. We're also preparing a new way for people to learn alongside us through the Foundation.

Thank you to the couples, event teams, and friends who have made room for our family-run ranch in your lives.

A magazine moment: featured in Edible Monterey Bay

Another highlight was seeing Monterey Mini Cow Company featured in Edible Monterey Bay's Fall 2026 issue. So much has grown from the dream that brought our family into ranch life, and seeing that story in print means a lot to us.

Mark C. Anderson's “Fly Me to the Moo”, with photography by Kelly Rose Evans, shares our family's story, our miniature cattle, and the growing Valais Blacknose sheep program here in Monterey County.

Thank you to Mark, Kelly, and the Edible Monterey Bay team for helping readers get to know our ranch and the animals we love.

Wedding memories worth keeping

Weddings have been part of this busy season, and we've included a few favorite photographs from August as we bring our ranch scrapbook up to date. We love that our animals can have a place in a day a couple has put so much thought into.

Another moment from our late-summer wedding album

If you're planning a wedding in Monterey County or elsewhere on California's Central Coast and imagining miniature cows as part of it, we'd love to hear what you have in mind. Start with your venue, date, and the kind of experience you'd like your guests to have. We can talk through the possibilities, with the animals' comfort and the venue's needs guiding the plan.

Explore our mini cow wedding experiences, then send us your wedding details. It's a conversation, and we're happy to help you work out what fits.

A September night at Monterey Zoo

We were also happy to be part of Monterey Zoo's 2026 Annual Zoo Gala on September 19. It belongs in our September memories, and we're glad to share a little of that evening here.

Thank you to the team who welcomed us. Weddings and community occasions give us different reasons to get out from behind the ranch gates, and we appreciate being included.

Looking ahead to lambing and our Valais Blacknose flock

Back home in Salinas, we're excited about the lambing season ahead and determined to keep building our registered Valais Blacknose sheep program in Monterey County.

Those black noses and beautiful curls may be what catch your eye first. For us, the future of the flock matters just as much. Our program includes registered sheep such as MegaMan and Murci, and we're keeping our breeding flock here as we plan the next generation.

We're looking forward to sharing lambing news when there are confirmed updates. For now, the excitement is in the preparation and the future we're working toward.

Interested in Valais Blacknose sheep in California?

We offer select sheep for sale and welcome conversations about the right fit for your home. If you're looking for Valais Blacknose sheep in California, meet our flock and explore the sheep listings, then ask us about current availability and the individual animal's records.

Companion wethers are non-breeding sheep, and we keep those placements separate from our breeding plans. Registration and transfer status are explained individually; we're happy to talk through the paperwork and care considerations with you.

Ask us about sheep availability. We'd love to hear what you're hoping for.

Coming together: Cow Care Fridays

We're also developing Cow Care Fridays through the Monterey Mini Cow Company Foundation. The idea is a small-group volunteer learning program, with supervised lessons and gentle, hands-on activities such as brushing and grooming the cows.

We're putting the arrangements together and will share how to get involved once the program is ready. Applications and start dates haven't been announced yet. We look forward to creating time for people to learn about the animals and spend meaningful time with them.

More to share from the ranch

Our family has grown in another wonderful way, too: Rose, Kateri, and Anna, our three registered yaks, have joined the herd. We've fallen for their faces and smiles, and are excited to share their story. Meet Rose, Kateri, and Anna in their own photo-filled introduction.

Thank you for following our September update and the plans taking shape this fall. Whether you found us through a wedding, our miniature cows, or the Valais Blacknose sheep, we're glad you're here.
