Valais Blacknose sheep in Monterey County: meet our foundation flock
Updated: Oct 10
There is a lot to love about a Valais Blacknose sheep. The woolly coats and black faces caught our attention, and building a home for this flock has become a part of ranch life we are excited to share. Our sheep are here in Salinas, in Monterey County, California.
A foundation flock we are building on
At Monterey Mini Cow Company, we have carefully assembled a purebred Valais Blacknose foundation flock. We are keeping the breeding flock here and preparing our program thoughtfully. We will share confirmed breeding and lambing updates as they happen.
The best place to follow the individual sheep is our dedicated Valais website. It brings together flock introductions and the current program information, rather than asking you to piece together older ranch posts.
What to ask us about a sheep
Tell us whether you are learning about the breed, looking for companions or asking about the breeding program. We can then talk about the right individual records, care needs and next steps. We distinguish registration records from ownership transfers, including anything still pending.
Availability changes. Our breeding flock is retained, and the sheep shown in ranch photographs are not automatically available for sale. Please check the current availability page and speak with us before making plans.
Keeping Valais Blacknose sheep in California
Good preparation matters as much as choosing an animal. Think through shelter, fencing, other sheep for companionship, access to appropriate veterinary care and how you will manage your property through the seasons. Our California guide is a useful place to begin those questions.
Stay in touch with the flock
Gen and I are proud to have these sheep as part of our ranch family. If you would like to learn more, send us a note about your interests and setup. We will be happy to explain where the program stands and what may be a good fit.
